Not the whole town. [Thoughtful frown as he adds quietly.] Actually, the townsfolk themselves usually seemed quite pipped at the whole affair. [Then louder.] But for exuberant young gentlemen, Boat Race Night was an important part of the Oxford educational experience. All sorts of important things a fellow can learn, like the special trick of the wrist that is essential for separating a helmet from his policeman.
